Mothers: You Deserve the Same Compassion
Motherhood can be one of the most beautiful, exhausting, and complex journeys a person can experience. So often, I sit with moms who are doing their absolute best to care for everyone around them—partner, kids, family, friends—while holding themselves to impossibly high standards. They beat themselves up for every perceived misstep, big or small, all while offering endless understanding and compassion to those they love.
What I wish every mom knew is that you deserve the same compassion you so easily extend to others. You’re human, which means you are allowed to have tough days, to make mistakes, and to not have all the answers. Being a “good mom” isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up with love, curiosity, and the willingness to repair when things go wrong. Your children don’t need you to judge yourself harshly—they need to see what self-kindness and being human looks like in action.
Imagine what would happen if you spoke to yourself the way you speak to your child when they’re struggling. What if you said, “It’s okay to feel tired,” or “You did the best you could today, and that’s enough”? Practicing self-compassion isn’t indulgent—it’s essential. It keeps you grounded and resilient, and it models for your kids how to be gentle with themselves too.
You deserve the same compassion you give so freely!
